La Defense

La Defense was constructed in 1883, to commemorate the French soldiers who died in the war with Germany from 1870 to 1871. This gigantic Arche is in the middle of the business center. The business center was named after this monument.

It was decided that the La Defense was to be built outside of Paris, so buildings in Paris would not have to be destroyed. The district of the monument is full of skyscrapers and apartment flats.
