The large square was created by Haussmann (1854). At its centre rises the monument with the statue of the Republic (1883), approximately 10 metres high, work of Dalou, depicting the events of the history of the Republic. The Place de la Republique is one of the most famous squares in Paris. At the center of the Place de la Republique is a 10 meter high statue called Republique, set on top of a monument to the history of the formation of the Republic. This statue dates from 1883 and was constructed by Dalou. Place de la Republique forms the junction of 3 disctricts in Paris, the 3rd, 11th and 12th.
